JAMB CAPS Explained: Every Status and What To Do

What each JAMB CAPS admission status means, how to check it on your phone, and how to accept or reject an offer safely.

What is JAMB CAPS?

CAPS (Central Admissions Processing System) is the JAMB platform where every university, polytechnic and college of education in Nigeria processes admission. A school can recommend you, but your admission is only official once it shows on CAPS and you accept it.

You reach CAPS by logging into your JAMB e-Facility profile with the email and password you used during UTME registration.

How to check CAPS on your phone

  • Open the JAMB e-Facility portal in Chrome or Safari.
  • If the page looks broken, turn on "Desktop site" from the browser menu.
  • Log in with your registration email and password.
  • Click "Check Admission Status" (or open the CAPS menu), choose your exam year and registration number, then tap Access my CAPS.
  • Open the Admission Status tab to see your current status.

What each status means

  • Not Admitted / No admission yet — your school has not offered you admission so far. Admissions run in batches, so keep checking and make sure your O'Level result is uploaded.
  • Admission in Progress (AIP) — your school is considering you, but nothing is final. Do not pay any agent who says they can "push" it.
  • Recommended — the school has recommended you to JAMB. Wait for approval; this is a good sign but not final.
  • Approved — JAMB has approved the offer. Check that the institution and course are correct, then accept it.
  • Transfer Approval — the school is offering a different course from the one you chose. Accept it only if you are happy with the new course; otherwise reject it and keep checking.

Accepting or rejecting an offer

When an offer appears, you will see Accept and Reject buttons. Read the course and school carefully before clicking — once you accept, you usually cannot take a different offer in the same session.

After accepting, print your JAMB admission letter from the e-Facility portal (the print service has a small official fee) and follow your school's acceptance and registration steps on its own portal.

Checklist if you are still Not Admitted

  • Confirm your O'Level result is uploaded and visible on your JAMB profile.
  • Check that your subject combination meets the course requirement.
  • Confirm you wrote and passed your school's Post-UTME or screening.
  • Check the school's cut-off mark and departmental cut-off.
  • Consider a change of institution or course on the JAMB portal if your score is below the cut-off.

Frequently asked questions

Can anyone pay to get me admission on CAPS?

No. JAMB has warned repeatedly that admission is not for sale. Anyone asking for money to "upgrade" your CAPS status is a scammer.

How long does Recommended take to become Approved?

It varies by school and batch. Many students see it change within a few days to weeks. Keep checking regularly.

Do I need to accept admission on CAPS if my school portal shows I'm admitted?

Yes. Your admission is only complete when you accept the offer on JAMB CAPS.

General guidance only. Always confirm dates, fees and requirements on the official JAMB and school websites.
